A Determined Mother’s Journey to Stability & Homeownership

We are excited to announce that our Family Selection Committee has chosen the newest Habitat homeowner for the Pine Street property, which was the focus of the 2025 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Rural Rally Work Project. Margaret Mix, a hardworking single mother, was selected for her dedication to building a better future for her family and her commitment to the Habitat partnership model. Throughout the selection process, Margaret demonstrated resilience, strong financial readiness, and a clear vision for long-term stability.

We will begin scheduling her required sweat equity hours to complete the exterior of her new home. Due to her busy work schedule, we anticipate her Key Ceremony taking place in early July. Stay tuned—this will be a celebration.

This decision was made possible through the dedication and thoughtful review of an outstanding group of community leaders and volunteers. We extend our sincere gratitude to:

Cami Benner, Family Services Director
Laurie Sweeney, Board Member & Family Selection Chair
Andi Crivello, Columbia Bank Branch Manager III & Community Member
Simren Khagura, Planner II, Yuba County
Melia Campbell, Volunteer
Tina Jackson, Community Volunteer
Jenna Summa, Community Advocate
John Sheen, Community Volunteer

Their time, care, and commitment ensure that Habitat homes are placed with families ready to succeed, strengthening our community for generations to come.
