Building Hope on Pine Street:
A Look Back at the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Rural Rally

In late October, Pine Street in Marysville became a living example of what community looks like when hearts and hands come together. The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Rural Rally, hosted by Habitat for Humanity Yuba-Sutter, brought volunteers, sponsors, and neighbors side by side for a week of revitalization and renewal.
Over five days, the once-quiet block came alive with the sounds of paint rollers, hammers, and laughter. Volunteers worked tirelessly to refresh and beautify several homes along the street while beginning the rehabilitation of a future Habitat home at 426 Pine Street, a once-dilapidated property that will soon become a safe, affordable home.
The weeklong effort culminated in a Closing Ceremony that drew community members, local leadership, and CBS News Sacramento, who came to celebrate the transformation and the people who made it possible. For many, it was more than a project. It was a visible reminder of what the Carters stood for: compassion, humility, and the belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live.
Dozens of volunteers from across the region joined the effort, including groups from the Twin Cities Rescue Mission and the Yuba County Office of Education Adult Education construction program. Their teamwork and dedication turned an ambitious goal into an inspiring reality.
The event would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors and partners, including Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain, Yuba-Sutter Food Bank, Yuba Water Agency, SayLove, Whirlpool, Good360, Lowes, and many others. Their contributions, whether through materials, meals, or financial support, helped ensure every detail came together.
As the last brush strokes dried and the tools were packed away, what remained was more than the fresh paint or trimmed lawns. It was a renewed sense of unity and hope. The Rural Rally showed the power of collective action and how a single week of focused effort can change not just a block, but the lives within it.
Although the official event week has come to an end, the work continues. Our Habitat construction team and volunteers will keep working at 426 Pine Street throughout November, bringing the home closer each day to completion. The Rural Rally will not truly be complete until the moment we place the keys into the hands of the new homeowners. That milestone will mark not just the end of a project, but the beginning of a new chapter for a deserving new homeowner, and for Pine Street itself.
Thank you to every volunteer, partner, and supporter who helped make the Carter Rural Rally a success. Together, we are building homes, community, and hope, one street at a time.
