We’re proud to be part of a nationwide movement alongside the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The Rural Rally shines a spotlight on the unique housing challenges faced by rural communities while demonstrating the solutions that Habitat makes possible.
This is more than a week of revitalization, it’s a chance to show the impact of Habitat’s work, engage new supporters, and make the case for stronger investment in rural homeownership.
This is a perfect volunteer opportunity to get involved with Habitat and further the mission of safe, affordable housing!
We will provide tools, training, and team leads. All experience levels are welcome.
What is Rural Rally?
The Rural Rally is a national week of action to highlight the urgent need for affordable homeownership in rural America. Here in Marysville, we’ll focus on revitalizing Pine Street, rehabilitating the home at 426 Pine Street as a new affordable homeownership opportunity. This home will serve as the centerpiece of the Rural Rally, undergoing full rehabilitation to prepare it for a new Habitat homeowner just before the holiday season.
In addition to rehabbing 426 Pine Street, the Rally will include a “Brush with Kindness” project along the entire block, providing exterior painting, tree trimming, yard clean-up, and debris removal at no cost to residents. The goal is to breathe new life into Pine Street-raising property values, improving neighborhood pride, and creating visible momentum for Marysville and Yuba County.
Rural communities are home to farmers, veterans, essential workers, and small business owners. They are resilient, tightly connected, and vital to our nation’s food, energy, and culture. Yet too many families here face barriers to safe, affordable housing. By participating in Rural Rally, you are joining a national movement to bring lasting solutions to these challenges.
Everyone has a role to play, from contractors and skilled tradespeople to community members keeping teams supported. Together, we are showing that local leadership and community investment can build lasting change. All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation, with the date to be determined before the event.
Contractors and Skilled Volunteers:
Help lead volunteers in painting, drywall, housing rehab, and brush with kindess projects. All lead volunteers must take safeguarding training.
Ideal for contractors, tradespeople, and experienced DIYers.
Support Volunteers:
Keep teams moving with site hospitality, registration, water and snack stations, supplies, and check-in.
Family Services Homeowner Selection Committee
Assist our staff in the application review process and homeowner engagement related to this project.
Great for detail-oriented with volunteers who enjoy community outreach. Our Family Services team will provide the selection committee with qualified applications for review, to select our newest homeowner.
Each Rural Rally volunteer is encouraged to raise $500 to cover the costs of safety gear, paint, materials, food, permits, and daily site operations.
Every dollar you raise stays local, building homes and stability in Yuba-Sutter. By meeting this goal, you’re not only helping fund the week’s work, you’re also making the case for why sustained investment in rural housing matters at the state and national level

This project is part of a larger call to action: to show policymakers and our neighbors that rural families deserve strong investment and innovative housing solutions. By volunteering, you’ll not only transform Pine Street, you’ll help amplify the voices of rural America.
Why does this matter?
Rural homes are twice as likely to be inadequate compared to urban homes. Bank closures and limited financing make it harder for families to buy, rehab, or build. Through the Rural Rally, we’re raising awareness and urging policymakers to make rural housing a national priority.
